The 2008 J-E Eagle Harriers

Cody Stanton - Junior. Cody returns to cross country for his junior season with high expectations. Cody was a first team All Division runner in 2007. Stanton also qualified for the State Meet last November finishing 41st overall. A stellar spring track season saw Cody run 10.07 for 3200 meters which ranks him 2nd all time for Jordan-Elbridge. Stanton is the 3rd fastest returner to class C based upon his 7th place finish in last year's sectionals. Stanton projects to be the Eagles' number one runner.

Mike Marrero - Junior - Captain. Marrero has certainly lived up to his nickname 'Mad Dog' in his first two years of varsity cross country. The 2006 Rookie of the Year and a 2nd Team All Division All Star in 2007, Marrero looks to dominate in 2008. Mike just missed the state qualifier standard for the 3000 meter steeple chase last spring with an outstanding 10.52 time. Marrero was selected as Captain by Coach Roman for his strong work ethic and leadership qualities. Marrero will give Stanton a run for his money as the Eagle's number one man.

Greg Bader - Sophomore. Perhaps no one in recent history has come so far in so little time as Bader. A newcomer to cross country in 2007, Bader has quickly established himself as a superior distance runner. The 'hero' of last year's Sectional title with his "out-of-nowhere" 29th place finish, Bader followed his 'Rookie of the Year' Award season to another season of accomplishments in spring track. There, Greg ran 4.48 for the mile, breaking the All Time Freshman record. Bader also holds the J-E Freshman Record for the Steeple Chase with a 11.21 clocking. Easily putting in the most summer miles should put Bader at the front of the J-E pack. No one is more focused on cross country than Greg.

Tom Poppe - Sophomore. Poppe enters his 2nd year of varsity cross country looking to improve upon a fantastic rookie season where he shared the Co-Rookie of the Year Award with Greg Bader. Tom finished his first season of cross country as J-E's fifth-ranked harrier with 73 points - a rare feat for a freshman. Tom finished 43rd in J-E's C-1 Sectional championship and projects to be the 24th fastest returner to Class C. Poppe scored in 8 races for New York's 3rd-ranked Class C team. Poppe looks even more impressive so far in practices as he's had a great summer of training. Tom attended the Aim High Camp in early August which renewed his enthusiasm for distance running. Tom specialized in sprinting in track though, breaking 60 seconds for the 400 (58.3) and running 27.8 for 200 meters.

Kyle Becker - Senior. It is long overdue that this J-E harrier live up to his athletic potential. Becker, a three year veteran to cross country, is coming off of a season-ending foot injuy sustained last September which wiped out his junior season. Converting over to indoor and outdoor track has only helped propel this senior to a top five team position. Becker ran the toughest of races in outdoor track - the 400 hurdles, running a respectable 69.3. Don't be surprised to see Kyle up with the J-E leaders sometime this season.

Tom Badman - Sophomore. Tom enters his sophomore season of cross country totally prepared compared to his freshman campaign that was cut short by plaguing injuries. Badman has put a serious summer of training under his belt and looks to kick some butts and take some names. Badman has a short resume' with little fanfare, but looks to crack the Eagles' tough top seven. Tom is an accomplished drummer in the J-E Marching Band.

George Brauchle - Senior. Brauchle is the Eagles' most experienced harrier as he ran in his 2nd Sectional race in 2007, finishing in 96th place (19.30). A 4th year varsity runner, George was projected to be the Eagles' number five man, George has his work cut out for him with the competitive nature of the 2008 squad. Brauchle has run 5.30 in the mile in outdoor track and is one of the three seniors on J-E's squad. Given additional training, Brauchle may live up to his experience and potential.

Scott Sullivan - Sophomore. Sullivan enters his first season of J-E cross country and looks like he may be a top 7 varsity runner. Sullivan has had a great season of summer training combined with his natural athleticism, should combine to make Scott's rookie season a good one. Sullivan also plays on the basketball team and with his good height and strength, a real possibility of making the varsity squad.

Carlin Coomey - Sophomore. Carlin is entering his 2nd season of varsity cross country with high expectations. Carlin got 12 races under his belt during his freshman season and ended the season tied as J-E's 11th man. Coomey saw more success in track as he blazed to a 60.2 second timing in the 400 and 71.4 seconds in the 400 hurdles. Coomey is top ten in the Eagles' pecking order at the time of publication.

Derrick Cheney - Sophomore. Cheney sought to become a cross country runner to help him to better be prepared to wrestle and to play lacrosse, both sports in which he excells. Little did Cheney know that he'd be a strong distance runner as well and looks to shake up the pecking order as a first year runner.

Brendan Hogan - Senior. One of J-E's three seniors, Brendan enters his 4th year of varsity cross country. Hogan has not yet made it to sectionals, but looks stronger than at any time ever in his career. Brendan is an accomplished sprinter on J-E's track teams anchoring the boys 4 by 100 squad to a 2nd place finish in heat 1 at the Southern Cayuga Invite. Hogan's also run 2.36 for 800 meters.

Robby Patterson - Freshman. Patterson, like Slonosky, has two years experience at both cross country and track at the modified levels. In addition, Patterson has played two years of basketball. Rob specialized in the 800 meter run in track and set a personal record of 2.41 for 800 meters and 5.30 for 1500. Rob will have a fine debut season on the JV Cross Country Squad.

Zane Schwarting - Sophomore. Zane returns to the J-E Cross Country team a year older and 20 pounds lighter than he was during the 2007 pre-season. Schwarting also runs track and excelled in the hurdles.

Dylan Kirk - Junior. Dylan returns for his third season of cross country looking to make his mark. Kirk competed in the Sectionals in 2007 finishing in 137th place. Dylan had an outstanding track season where he cleared 9 feet in the pole vault and also running 2.30 in the 800. A year older, stronger, and wiser should put Kirk in the mix for a varsity position. Dylan is also working on his Eagle Scout Project which will result in a new trail being added to the existing cross country course.

Steve Smith - Freshman. Smith enters into his first year of varsity cross country after a year running both modified cross country and track. Steve excells in the sprint events and is developing his endurance for the longer races. The future is bright for Steve.

Steve Slonosky - Freshman. Slonosky enters into his first varsity cross country season with two years of modified cross country and track under his belt. Steve was the modified cross country team's number one man for every race in 2007 culminating with a victory at home over Marcellus and Solvay. Steve's p.r. in track was 5.21 for 1500 meters. Slonosky should improve as the season progresses and likely will crack the top 10.

Kyle Alpha - Junior. Kyle enters into his third year of Varsity Cross Country healthier than he's ever been in his career. Kyle ran in the Section III Championships in 2007 and finished 110th in a time of 20.00.7. Kyle wrestled on the varsity squad last year as well and had a winning record. Alpha looks to compete for a varsity spot this season using his valuable racing experience to defeat inexperienced teammates.

Mitch Alpha - Freshman. Alpha returns to cross country after taking his 8th grade season off to play football. Mitch is an accomplished wrestler and lacrosse player. With Alpha's toughness as a 'never-say-die' wrestler - a terrific first season of varsity cross country is in store.

John Flynn - Senior. John is an experienced track standout who decided to give cross country a try. John was a first team all league runner in track and league champ in the Pentathlon. John just missed making the Empire State Team for the Pent. and was the first alternate for the scholastic squad. John is 3rd all time at J-E in the high jump with his 5' 8" jump. John's best time in the 1500 is 4.58. Flynn is expected to make his mark and crack the top ten this season.
