Meet the Squad Page 2

Billy Direnzo - Freshman;  Direnzo enters into his first season on the Varsity Cross Country squad and seems destined to follow in his older brother's footsteps {Donato Direnzo ran three years of cross country at J-E}.  Billy ran two years of modified cross country and two years of modified track at J-E.  In modified track, Direnzo ran 68.2 for the 400 meter dash and competed on many relay teams.  Although the transition from modified to the varsity distance is formidable, Billy looks like he's up for the task and will be heard from in the not-too-near future.

Jared Bard - Freshman;  Bard enters into his first season of Varsity Cross Country after two campaigns on the Modified Squad.  Jared was the Modified Squad's number one man in every race in 2008.  In addition to cross country, Bard plays basketball and baseball for the school.  "J-Rod", as his teammates call him, is so versatile that during this past summer he was playing all three sports simultaneously.  Bard looks like a solid Junior Varsity runner in 09, but don't rule out this precocious freshman.

Jack Gugel - 8th Grade;  Although not officially on the Varsity Squad just yet, don't get fooled by this runner's age or grade in school.  Gugel, an 8th grader, has attended many summer practices and has looked spectacular at times, a definite star of the future.  Jack competed in modified soccer and track as a 7th grader.  As a trackster, Gugel ran a personal best of 5.38 in the 1500, and 2.43 in the 800.  There is no doubt that you'll be reading the name JACK GUGEL down the road as a cross country star.
